Telling your story

Many people would see telling their story as a first and fundamental aspect of talking therapy.  For some people this may happen in routine mental health services, as a nurse, social worker, psychiatrist or another professional tries to understand what has happened to you.  However inviting people to tell their story in their own way is not always part of a traditional psychiatric approach, and short appointments and limited resources can also make it difficult.  For some people telling their story may be part of a more specialised psychological therapy.  For some people telling their story to friends, family or peers may be the most helpful experience.
